New Water Storage Tank Now Online in Pavilion
The Monroe County Water Authority’s new water storage tank on Walker Road in the Town of Pavilion was brought online Monday, January 27, 2025. The new tank was constructed to replace the existing North Avenue and West Main Street tanks in the Village of LeRoy, and the former Village of LeRoy Water Treatment Plant’s finished water storage on Walker Road in the Town of Pavilion.
The new tank was intentionally constructed at a higher elevation than the existing storage tanks, which results in an increased water pressure to the area supplied by the tank by approximately 10 to 15 pounds per square inch (psi). The new tank will improve water quality and provide greater fire flow as the tank was constructed with considerably more useable water volume. Some areas may experience a higher than normal number of water main breaks as the water distribution system acclimates to the increased water system pressure. This is expected to subside once the system adjusts to the new “normal” water pressure. Our crews are working as quickly as possible to control the breaks and make repairs. Final lawn and pavement restoration will be completed when weather permits.
The MCWA frequently invests in various capital improvement projects to upgrade and enhance the current water treatment and transmission system. The existing water storage facilities in LeRoy and Pavilion were reaching the end of their useful life and were in need of significant rehabilitation or replacement. The Walker Road tank is a regional facility that will take the place of these existing facilities, as well as provide additional water storage for the Genesee County Water Supply Project.
